September 24 – 5:00 – 7:00 – Welcome to the New Year Open House (No sign up is required for this. More information will be sent next week.)

September 25 – NO SCHOOL – Non-Instruction Day

September 28 – Picture Day

September 29 – Orange Shirt Day

September 29 - 6:00pm - School Council Meeting (In person at NLS)

September 30 – NO SCHOOL – National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

Academic focus over the next two weeks:

We are well underway with our routines and academics at school. Over the next couple of weeks, here are some of the key areas we will be dedicating time to.

• New government reading assessment for all grade 5
• New government math assessment for all grade 5
• Classroom writing dedicated to upcoming events (social and public awareness - Terry Fox, Fall Equinox, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation)
• Place value in math (understanding numbers to 10 000 000 and as a small at thousandths)
• Continued review on basic facts up to 12 x 12 and related division equations (144 / 12 =)
• Introduction to the ancient world geography in Social Studies
• Introduction to weather and climate around the Earth in Science

Learning Highlights:

1. Met our new grade 2 learning buddies
2. Explored place value with foam place value discs
3. Wrote ALL ABOUT ME in numbers
4. Participated in MANY small class oral presentations sharing about ourselves
5. Collaboratively solved scrambled mystery word during 2,3,4 or more word build task
